Srinagar, June 17: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Wednesday said restoration of statehood is the BJP’s commitment but the process would be guided by the security situation on ground.

Addressing a press conference here, Sharma, per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said statehood is a commitment and it will be fulfilled.

He, however, said the Centre wants violence and public disorder to become things of the past, with lasting peace and stability as key priorities.

He also claimed that the National Conference-led government was facing internal contradictions and lacked stability.

“The ruling coalition is unstable and does not have the cohesion required to govern effectively. It will collapse because of its own weaknesses. The BJP will neither topple it nor seek to form an alternative government,” he said.

Taking a dig at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Sharma termed some of his recent remarks as irresponsible and said he should act with maturity and responsibility.

He also alleged that the recent meeting of National Conference legislators at Dachigam reflected concerns within the ruling party about its internal unity and support base—(KNO)
