Ziraat Times Team Report

Srinagar, June 16: The Income Tax Department on Monday organised an awareness programme on the New Income Tax Act, 2025 at its Srinagar office as part of a nationwide outreach initiative aimed at improving understanding of the reformed direct taxation framework among taxpayers and stakeholders.

The programme was hosted by Ms. Monika Dhami, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar, and witnessed participation from representatives of various trade bodies, professional associations and civil society groups, including the Bar Association, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Cold Storage Association Srinagar, and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Srinagar Chapter, among others.

Dr. G. S. Phani Kishore, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Amritsar Region, attended the event as chief guest and delivered the keynote address. He highlighted the key features of the New Income Tax Act, 2025, which is scheduled to come into effect from April 1, 2026.

Dr. Kishore said the new legislation is designed to make the direct tax system simpler, more accessible and taxpayer-friendly by reducing procedural complexity, removing redundant provisions, and consolidating scattered legal sections into a more streamlined structure.

This was followed by a detailed presentation on the broader changes introduced under the new Act by Shri Shakil Ahmad Ganie, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar.

Participants were also briefed on the “Kar Saathi” chatbot through a presentation by Shri Abhineet Jhorar, Income Tax Officer. The digital tool, available on the Income Tax Department’s official website, is intended to assist taxpayers by responding to queries and facilitating access to various tax-related services.

An interactive session was also held during the programme, during which participants raised issues related to Tax Deducted at Source (TDS), taxpayer awareness, outreach initiatives, and other aspects of tax administration. Departmental officers responded to the queries and concerns raised.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Ruweda Salam, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar, who expressed gratitude to participants for their engagement and for contributing to constructive dialogue between the department and taxpayers.
