Centre announces several IAS, IPS postings to and from J&K. Syed Abid Rashid shifts to Chandigarh

New Delhi, January 4: In a major transfer exercise for the AGMUT cadre, the Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered the transfer and posting of 31 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and 18 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers with immediate effect. Among them, multiple officers have been moved to and from Jammu & Kashmir.

The transfer order, dated 4 January 2026, lists officers across the joint cadre that serves Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and the Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Lakshadweep, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh (AGMUT). The formal orders are maintained by the Ministry of Home Affairs under its AGMUT cadre management portal.

Key moves involving Jammu & Kashmir

  • Syed Abid Rashid Shah (IAS, 2012 batch) has been transferred from Jammu & Kashmir to the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

  • Santos D Vaidya (IAS, 1998 batch) and Niraj Kumar (IAS, 2010 batch) have been moved from J&K to Delhi, while Ashwani Kumar (IAS, 1992 batch) has been sent from Delhi to Jammu & Kashmir.

  • R Alice Vaz (IAS, 2005 batch) has moved from Delhi to Jammu & Kashmir, and Anjali Sehrawat (IAS, 2013) from Delhi to Jammu & Kashmir.

  • Baseer Ul Haq Chaudhary (IAS, 2015) has been transferred from J&K to Ladakh.

  • Akriti Sagar (IAS, 2016) has been moved from Arunachal Pradesh to Jammu & Kashmir; Kumar Abhishek (IAS, 2016) from Delhi to Jammu & Kashmir; and Saloni Rai (IAS, 2016) from Jammu & Kashmir to Delhi.

IPS postings touching J&K

Among the IPS transfers, Prashant Priya Gautam (2013 batch) has been posted from Delhi to Jammu & Kashmir, indicating reinforcement of policing leadership in the Union Territory. The IPS list also includes others moving to or from different AGMUT regions, though fewer directly involve J&K compared with the IAS list.
