Srinagar, Dec 20: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet in a ₹50 lakh land fraud case before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar.
According to officials, the chargesheet in FIR No. 02/2025 has been filed under Sections 420 and 471 read with Section 120-B of the RPC against four accused persons for cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy.
The accused named in the chargesheet are Mohd Afzal Sheikh of Gopalpora, Chadoora, Budgam; Mohd Sikander Dar of Chainabal Mirgund, Pattan, Baramulla; and Ali Mohd Dar, also a resident of Chainabal Mirgund, Pattan, Baramulla. The case pertains to their alleged involvement as land brokers and associates in the fraudulent sale of land.
The case originated from a written complaint in which the complainant alleged that in September 2022, the accused induced him to purchase four kanals of land at Revenue Estate Ranbirgarh–Pratapgarh, Srinagar. To gain the complainant’s trust, the accused reportedly showed revenue records, Naqsh-e-Amini and geo-tagged photographs, claiming the land was accessible and suitable.
Relying on these representations, the complainant paid ₹50 lakh. A sale deed was subsequently registered and possession was handed over. However, the complainant later discovered that the land shown at the site was different from the land mentioned in the sale deed.
During investigation, it was established that the complainant had been shown land falling under Survey No. 207, which was accessible, whereas the land actually sold was under Survey No. 94 — a wetland with no proper approach. The probe further revealed that the accused, in connivance with each other, forged and misused documents to execute the fraudulent transaction.
Officials said the investigation clearly established a well-planned criminal conspiracy to cheat the complainant. Following completion of the probe, the chargesheet has been filed for judicial scrutiny and further legal proceedings.
The EOW said it remains committed to taking strict action against economic offences and land fraud cases to protect the interests of citizens.
