Jammu: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday evening unveiled the curtain raiser of the Jammu Marathon–2026 at Amar Mahal, formally launching the registrations along with the event’s logo and teaser.
Scheduled to be held on March 29, 2026, the marathon will be organised under the theme “Temples to Trails”, with an aim to promote fitness, encourage youth participation, and boost sports tourism in the region. The event is also expected to showcase Jammu’s rich cultural heritage and scenic landscapes.
According to officials, the Jammu Marathon will offer runners an opportunity to experience the city’s historical landmarks and natural surroundings, positioning Jammu as an emerging destination on the country’s sports tourism map.
The Chief Minister said that such initiatives play a vital role in fostering a culture of health and wellness while also providing a platform for young athletes to engage in competitive sports. He added that large-scale sporting events also contribute to local economic activity by attracting participants and visitors from across the country.
The announcement follows the successful Kashmir Marathon held earlier in Srinagar, which witnessed participation from several international athletes along with local runners. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had also taken part in the Kashmir Marathon, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting sports and fitness across Jammu and Kashmir.
