Srinagar, Dec 6: The Directorate of Horticulture Planning and Marketing, Jammu & Kashmir, has issued a stern warning against alleged undercover auction practices reported from certain Fruit and Vegetable Markets in the Union Territory.

According to an official circular, the department has taken serious note of social media reports suggesting that some market players may be conducting concealed auctions of horticulture and agricultural produce. The Director said such activities are strictly prohibited and violate the laws governing regulated market operations.

The circular clarified that all trade of horticulture produce must be carried out through open, transparent and accountable auction processes. Any trader, commission agent, or entity found involved in or facilitating such unlawful practices will face stringent legal action, including immediate cancellation of licences and other penalties prescribed under the law.

To enforce compliance, field officers have been instructed to intensify monitoring of market operations and ensure the guidelines are followed in letter and spirit.

The department said it remains committed to protecting farmers’ interests and upholding fair, transparent trade practices across all regulated markets in Jammu & Kashmir.
