Passport Verification Record Now Made Accessible on DigiLocker

New Delhi, Dec 4: The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has enabled the Passport Verification Record (PVR) on the DigiLocker platform. The move is aimed at simplifying documentation for millions of passport applicants and strengthening India’s digital public infrastructure, officials said.

DigiLocker — a secure cloud-based service under the Digital India programme — now allows citizens to securely access, store, share, and verify their PVRs directly within the platform. The integration reduces reliance on physical documents and ensures paperless, contactless, and easily verifiable services.

According to the government, once a passport applicant’s verification is completed, the PVR will automatically appear under the “Issued Documents” section of their DigiLocker account, accessible through both the mobile app and the web portal.

Key benefits for citizens include:

• Anytime, anywhere access: PVRs can be retrieved digitally without carrying physical copies.

• Faster processing: Digital PVRs will streamline verification for travel, employment, compliance, and other official requirements.

• Tamper-proof security: Records are issued directly by government systems, ensuring authenticity and protection against manipulation.

• Instant digital sharing: Users can provide consent-based access to institutions, reducing the need for attested photocopies.

• Support for green governance: The shift to a paperless workflow promotes environmentally responsible administration.

Officials said the integration marks a “pivotal milestone” in modernising government services, combining secure records with user-friendly access to bolster transparency and public trust.

The collaboration between MEA and NeGD reflects a whole-of-government approach to expanding digital services and ensuring seamless delivery across departments. The initiative is expected to significantly improve processing times and convenience for passport applicants nationwide.
