Kashmiri Author Izhar Mubashir receives Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2025 for ‘Shure Te Tchure Gyush’

Awards ceremony to be held on November 14 in New Delhi; 24 writers across Indian languages to be felicitated

New Delhi, November 12: Kashmiri writer Izhar Mubashir has been awarded the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2025 for his collection of short stories, “Shure Te Tchure Gyush,” in recognition of his contribution to children’s literature in Kashmiri. Mubashir is among 24 writers from across India to be honoured by the Sahitya Akademi this year for outstanding literary works in various Indian languages.

The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Triveni Auditorium, Tansen Marg, New Delhi, and will be presided over by Madhav Kaushik, President of the Sahitya Akademi. Eminent Gujarati author Varsha Das will grace the occasion as Chief Guest, while Akademi Vice President Kumud Sharma will deliver the vote of thanks. The event will open with a welcome address by Pallavi Prashant Holkar, Secretary of the Sahitya Akademi.

The Bal Sahitya Puraskar celebrates excellence in children’s literature across 24 recognized Indian languages. Each awardee will receive a cash prize of ₹50,000 and a bronze plaque.

Other award-winning works include Mainaahantar Padya (Assamese) by Surendra Mohan Das, Ekhono Gaye Kanta Daye (Bengali) by Tridib Kumar Chattopadhyay, Dakshin: South Indian Myths and Fables Retold (English) by Nitin Kushalappa MP, Notebook (Kannada) by K. Shivalingappa Handihal, Ottrai Siragu Oviya (Tamil) by Vishnupuram Sarvanan, and Qaumi Sitare (Urdu) by Ghazanfar Iqbal, among others.

An Awardees’ Meet is scheduled for November 15, 2025, at the Akademi’s Ravindra Bhawan auditorium, where the winners will discuss their creative journeys. The session will be chaired by Vice President Kumud Sharma.

The Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar remains India’s foremost literary recognition for children’s writers, honouring creativity that shapes young minds and preserves the country’s linguistic and cultural diversity.
