Civil Aviation team to visit Kishtwar for airport feasibility review

Two-day visit to assess proposal under UDAN scheme; report to be submitted to Centre

KISHTWAR: A five-member high-level team from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is scheduled to arrive in Kishtwar on Sunday for a two-day visit to assess the feasibility and current status of the proposed Kishtwar Airport under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) regional connectivity scheme.

According to officials, the team will conduct on-ground inspections, review available infrastructure, and interact with local authorities to evaluate the technical and logistical requirements for the project. Upon returning to New Delhi, the delegation will submit a detailed report to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, based on which further steps will be decided.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said the visit reflects the Centre’s continued focus on improving connectivity and development in far-flung regions.

“It is gratifying that each of our requests and initiatives for the development of remote areas has always received a positive response,” Dr. Singh said, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s special priority for the region.

The proposed airport project, once cleared, is expected to significantly improve accessibility to the Chenab Valley region, boost tourism, and facilitate economic growth through enhanced air connectivity under the UDAN initiative.
