IEI J&K State Centre Holds 60th AGM, Announces New Executive Committee

Srinagar: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu & Kashmir State Centre, held its 60th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday at its auditorium in Church Lane, Sonwarbagh, Srinagar. The event witnessed participation from a distinguished gathering of corporate members, including outgoing and incoming members of the Executive Committee.

The meeting began with opening remarks by Dr. Jahangeer Ali, Honorary Secretary, followed by a welcome address and declaration of election results by Er. Iftikhar Ahmad Hakim, Chairman of the J&K State Centre. During the proceedings, the Annual Report for 2024–25 and the Audited Statements of Accounts were presented, along with the appointment of auditors and other statutory matters in accordance with the Institution’s Charter and Bye-laws.

A key highlight of the meeting was the formal handover and takeover ceremony marking the transition of leadership for the 2025–27 session. Er. Ferdous Ahad Bhat and Er. Irfan Ahmad Reshi officially assumed charge as Chairman and Honorary Secretary, respectively. The outgoing office bearers, Er. Iftikhar Ahmad Hakim and Dr. Jahangeer Ali, handed over their responsibilities in a dignified manner, earning appreciation from members for their exemplary service.

The newly elected Executive Committee (2025–27) comprises:

  • Er. Ferdous Ahad Bhat – Chairman

  • Er. Irfan Ahmad Reshi – Honorary Secretary

  • Er. Iftikhar Ahmad Hakim – Immediate Past Chairman

  • Dr. Jahangeer Ali – Immediate Past Honorary Secretary

  • Civil Engineering Branch: Er. Basharat Jeelani Kawoosa, Er. Irfan Shafi Parray, and Er. Shabir Ahmad Tak

  • Mechanical Engineering Branch: Er. Ansar Hamid Sheikh and Er. Shuja Hussain Qureishi

  • Production Engineering Branch: Er. Mohammad Amin Kak

  • Electronics & Telecommunication Branch: Er. Mohammad Owais Raja and Er. Gowhar Rafiqi

  • Electrical Engineering Branch: Er. Aijaz Ahmad Mir and Er. Arshad Bashir Bhat

  • Computer Engineering Branch: Dr. Janibul Bashir

In his inaugural address, Er. Ferdous Ahad Bhat expressed gratitude for the trust reposed in him and pledged to advance the Institution’s objectives through professional collaboration, innovation, and public engagement. Er. Irfan Ahmad Reshi emphasized the need for strengthening interdisciplinary participation and enhancing outreach to young engineers and academia.

The meeting concluded with a felicitation ceremony honoring the outgoing office bearers, followed by a vote of thanks from Dr. Jahangeer Ali and informal interactions over tea.

Notably, Er. Ferdous Ahad Bhat holds the distinction of being the youngest Chairman in the history of the Institution’s J&K State Centre. A Mechanical Engineer with an M.Tech degree, he currently serves as an Assistant Executive Engineer (Mechanical). Er. Irfan Ahmad Reshi, the new Honorary Secretary, is an Assistant Executive Engineer (Civil).
