SKIMS to Harness 30-Year Data for AI-Driven Healthcare in J&K: Prof Ashraf Ganie

Director announces AI integration plan at workshop organised in collaboration with DataLeads

SRINAGAR: The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) is set to leverage its rich, three-decade-old data repository to drive advances in medical research, academics, and patient care through Artificial Intelligence (AI). The announcement was made by Director SKIMS and EOSG, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, while addressing a workshop on “AI in Healthcare” organised by the Skill Development Centre SKIMS in collaboration with DataLeads, New Delhi.

Calling data the “biggest treasure and strength of SKIMS,” Prof. Ganie said the institute would utilise this vast repository to achieve innovation and excellence in healthcare delivery.
“Data is gold, and SKIMS will utilise this gold for transformative growth in medical education, research, and clinical services,” he emphasised.

Highlighting the potential of AI integration in healthcare, Prof. Ganie said collaboration between human intelligence and machine learning will enhance precision, accuracy, and contextual understanding in clinical practice. He noted that AI could help address challenges such as limited human resources, while strengthening teaching, training, research, and skill development at the institute.

Prof. Ganie expressed gratitude to Syed Nazakat, CEO and Founder of DataLeads, for facilitating the workshop and for underscoring the emerging role of AI in the health sector. He assured institutional support for future collaborations on developing health information systems and AI-driven healthcare models, adding that “SKIMS will take the lead in aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision of reshaping healthcare in India through Artificial Intelligence.”

The AI Skill Development Training Programme for Healthcare Professionals aimed to introduce participants to the transformative potential of AI in healthcare delivery, clinical decision-making, and research. It equipped attendees with insights into AI tools, digital healthcare applications, and data-driven practices that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and patient outcomes.

The workshop covered a broad range of topics, including AI concepts and global perspectives, clinical applications such as diagnostics and imaging, AI in public health and research, and ethical and regulatory aspects like patient privacy and data security.

The day-long session, coordinated by Prof. Aijaz A. Lone and Dr. Qazi Mudassir, witnessed overwhelming participation from SKIMS faculty, residents, paramedics, students, administrators, and technicians. The initiative marks a significant step toward digital readiness in healthcare, positioning SKIMS at the forefront of AI-enabled medical innovation in the region.
