Srinagar: A controversy has erupted over the appointment of Nasir Aslam Wani (Sogami) as Advisor to the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, with the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) offering a different version to what was earlier shared with Journalist Ahmed Ali Fayyaz.
The CMO, in a late-night clarification, said that Mr Wani had been officially appointed Advisor to the Chief Minister through Government Order No. 1783-JK(GAD) of 2024 dated October 16, 2024. It also released a copy of the order to counter what it called the “misleading reports” about his appointment.
According to the CMO, only the terms and conditions of Mr Wani’s appointment remain pending, which has led to delays. “This has not stopped his positive contributions to the governance of J&K,” the statement read, adding that with his vast political and administrative experience, Wani was playing a pivotal role in policy formulation, public outreach and implementation of government initiatives.
However, Omar Abdullah earlier struck a different note. Speaking to journalist Ahmed Ali Fayyaz, the Chief Minister said, “The file regarding the appointment of Nasir Aslam Wani as Advisor to the Chief Minister has not been approved by the Competent Authority (LG). It has been tossed from one office to another for the last 10 months and not approved till date.”
Omar further clarified that Mr Wani holds no status in the official protocol, draws no salary, has no government office or accommodation, and is effectively “working voluntarily.”
