SRINAGAR: After nearly ten days of closure, the Kashmir National Highway reopened today for the first time, allowing passenger vehicles and light trucks to enter Srinagar from Jammu. The resumption of traffic marks a significant relief for commuters and transporters who had been stranded due to road blockages.

Authorities confirmed that the highway has been cleared of debris and obstacles following recent landslides and weather-related disruptions. Traffic police and highway authorities were deployed along key stretches to ensure smooth movement and safety for travelers.

Local residents and transport operators welcomed the reopening. “It has been extremely difficult managing supplies and travel for the past ten days. Finally, we can move freely,” said a truck driver arriving in Srinagar.

Officials urged caution, warning motorists to drive carefully as some stretches remain vulnerable to landslides. Essential services and commercial supplies are expected to normalize gradually with the reopening of the highway.

The reopening is seen as a positive development for the region’s economy and daily life, as the highway is a critical lifeline connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.
