Srinagar: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) today held the 2nd Graduation Day function for the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry (FVSc & AH), Shuhama, to felicitate students of the 2019 BVSc & AH batch.
At the ceremony, 76 students were awarded provisional degree certificates, marking the successful completion of their Bachelors in Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry programme. The formal convocation, where they will receive final degrees, will be held later.
The highlights of the event included an academic procession, administration of the veterinarian’s oath, release of the Faculty Literary Club magazine, and the presentation of awards such as the Best Student Clinician and Budding Vets competition.
Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, who was the chief guest, congratulated the graduates and their parents, appreciating their dedication and perseverance. He lauded the faculty for its role in shaping professionals ready to contribute as “future global leaders and conscientious citizens.”
Prof. Ganai underlined the university’s recent achievements at national and international levels and urged the young graduates to pursue their ambitions with discipline and determination. “This powerful mantra,” he said, “will lead not only to individual success but also to the progress of the region and the nation.”
Dean FVSc & AH, Prof. Riaz Ahmad Shah, in his welcome address, presented a report of the faculty’s milestones and achievements. He expressed pride in the expanding footprint of SKUAST-K alumni across reputed institutions in India and abroad, urging the graduates to carry forward the legacy of excellence.
Prof. Sajad Gangoo, Dean Students’ Welfare, highlighted the faculty’s progress in modern technologies including information technology, biotechnology, and nanotechnology. In-charge Registrar, Pervaiz Ahmad Bhat, administered the veterinarian’s oath and emphasized the importance of ethics, work culture, and professionalism in veterinary practice.
Parents of graduates also shared their reflections, while students expressed gratitude and nostalgia, making the event a memorable occasion.
The ceremony was also attended by Director Extension, Prof. Riahana Habib Kanth, UG Coordinator Dr. I. M. Allaie, and Prof. Abdul Hai, who delivered the vote of thanks. Among the distinguished guests in the audience were Dr. Monica Gupta, Director NIFT Srinagar, and Prof. Archana Shastry, founder member of NIFT Srinagar.
The day concluded with a group photograph of the graduates, who also viewed a Rangoli display prepared by members of the student Art & Craft Club.
