Srinagar — In a landmark initiative aimed at accelerating the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) is set to launch the ‘Startup Idea Challenge – From Idea to Impact’, a statewide program designed to nurture innovation and unlock the region’s startup potential. The Grand Finale of the challenge is scheduled for September 2025.
Conceived in alignment with the J&K Startup Policy 2024–27, the Startup Idea Challenge is the first of its kind in the Union Territory and seeks to inspire students, grassroots innovators, and aspiring entrepreneurs from all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir. In collaboration with leading corporates and ecosystem partners, JKEDI aims to transform early-stage ideas into impactful ventures that address real-world challenges.
As part of the program rollout, JKEDI will conduct 46 boot camps and workshops across educational institutions — including colleges and universities — to identify and groom potential startup ideas. In addition to these, two advanced workshops and two intensive boot camps will be held at JKEDI campuses in Pampore and Bari Brahmana, providing participants with specialized mentoring, pitch development support, and business model refinement.
Themed “From Idea to Impact: Building J&K’s Startup Ecosystem,” the event will focus on sectors vital to the region’s growth, such as agriculture, tourism, handicrafts, information technology, renewable energy, and rural development.
The program will culminate in a high-profile Grand Finale, where the top 20 shortlisted innovators will pitch their ideas before a distinguished jury of industry leaders, investors, and policymakers. Winners will receive cash prizes totaling ₹4 lakhs, with ₹1 lakh for the 1st prize, ₹70,000 for the 2nd, and ₹30,000 for the 3rd. Eight additional special awards will be presented in categories such as:
-
Women Innovator Awards (2)
-
Sustainability Star Awards (2)
-
Rural Impact Awards (2)
-
