Srinagar: A one-day workshop on “New Engineering Guidelines and Minimum System Standards for Implementation of Cold Chain Components” was held today at the Directorate of Horticulture Kashmir, Rajbagh, under the chairmanship of Director Horticulture Kashmir, Vikas Anand.
The training programme, aimed at equipping departmental officers and private entrepreneurs with the latest technical standards in cold chain infrastructure, was attended by key stakeholders from across the horticulture and food processing sectors.
Ashish Fotedar, Chief Operating Officer, and Manoj Ji, Under Secretary, Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Government of India, were the key resource persons who conducted the training sessions. They provided detailed insights into the newly introduced engineering guidelines, responding to on-the-spot queries raised by participants.
The day-long event included two technical sessions with comprehensive discussions on current practices, infrastructure gaps, and practical implementation strategies. Stakeholders also discussed challenges being faced in cold chain management in Jammu & Kashmir’s horticulture sector.
Presidents of the CA Store Association and the Chamber of Commerce (Food Processing Industry) shared field-level perspectives and emphasized the need for sustained government support to strengthen the post-harvest ecosystem.
On the occasion, a formal handing over of the newly published guideline book—“Engineering Guidelines and Minimum System Standards for Cold Chain Components”—was done by MIDH representatives to the Director Horticulture Kashmir, who also serves as Mission Director MIDH, J&K.
In his address, Director Vikas Anand reaffirmed the department’s commitment to ensuring effective implementation of cold chain projects and extended full institutional support to farmers, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders. He instructed Chief Horticulture Officers and other field staff to provide maximum handholding to the farming and post-harvest community across the region.
