Kavinder Gupta sworn in as third Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh

Leh: Kavinder Gupta was sworn in today as the third Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh in a ceremonial event held at the Darbar Hall of the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat.

The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Arun Palli. The solemn ceremony was attended by senior civil and police officials, political leaders, religious heads, and members of the public.

As a senior BJP leader from Jammu and former deputy chief minister and speaker of J&K, Mr. Gupta brings with him decades of administrative and legislative experience. He succeeds Brigadier (Retd) B.D. Mishra, who served as the LG of Ladakh since February 2023.

In his brief address following the swearing-in, Mr. Gupta expressed his commitment to inclusive development, environmental preservation, and strengthening grassroots democracy in the strategically important Himalayan region.

“I will work with the people and administration of Ladakh to uphold the unique cultural and ecological identity of the region while ensuring fast-paced, equitable development,” Mr. Gupta said.

Officials said the new LG is expected to soon hold a series of meetings with civil society representatives and local administration to review ongoing projects and priority areas.

The Union Territory of Ladakh was carved out of the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir in August 2019.
