BEI cross country run: Ex SMC Commissioner Dr. G.N. Qasba applauds BEI’s efforts

Srinagar: In a spirited celebration of health, fitness and environmental responsibility, Bilaliya Educational Institute (BEI), Lal Bazar, Srinagar organized a Cross-Country Run along the picturesque Foreshore Road. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across three age groups—Under-12, Under-14 and Under-17.

The primary objective of the run was to encourage a healthier lifestyle among students while spreading awareness on the importance of a “Green and Clean Srinagar.” The event beautifully combined physical fitness with civic and ecological responsibility.

Dr. G. N. Qasba, former Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), attended as Chief Guest. In his address, Dr. Qasba commended the institute’s initiative and praised Mr. Wangnoo’s commitment to instilling both academic excellence and social awareness among students. “It’s heartening to see an educational institution take such a proactive role in shaping future citizens who are both fit and environmentally conscious,” he said.

BEI Chairman Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo expressed heartfelt thanks to the students, staff, and parents for their active involvement and support. He reiterated BEI’s ongoing commitment to environmental protection, particularly urging students to say no to polythene and help safeguard Kashmir’s delicate water ecosystems. “Our future depends on the steps we take today to preserve our natural surroundings,” he emphasized.

He encouraged students to adopt regular physical activity as a part of their daily routine, highlighting that a healthy body nurtures a focused and disciplined mind. “Fitness should not be a one-day event, but a way of life,” he added.

In his address, Wangnoo also reminded students of their moral responsibilities. “Always listen to your parents, respect their guidance, and never forget the sacrifices they make for your education and well-being,” he advised, drawing applause from the audience.

He also appreciated the presence of doctors and paramedics for ensuring medical safety throughout the event, calling their support crucial to the program’s smooth execution.

Medical support for the event was efficiently provided by the team from the Zonal Medical Officer (ZMO) Zadibal. The arrangements were supervised by Dr. Mudasir Nabi, Medical Officer at PHC Zadibal, who also served as the Guest of Honour on the occasion.

Dr. Nabi emphasized the importance of incorporating physical activity into students’ daily routines. “Events like these are not only essential for physical health but also play a significant role in enhancing mental well-being and instilling discipline among youth,” he stated.

The event concluded with students and staff taking a collective pledge to adopt eco-friendly habits and uphold values of sustainability in their daily lives.

Winners of the Cross Country Run; Under-12 (Boys): 1st – Mohammad Azeem Shah, Class 5, 2nd – Reyaan Bilal, Class 4, 3rd – Umer Tariq, Class 5; Under-14 (Boys): 1st – Zehran Showkat, Class 7, 2nd – Mohammad Yehya, Class 7, 3rd – Mohammad Zaid, Class 7, Under-17 (Boys): 1st – Mohammad Amaar, Class 8, 2nd – Bakir Owais, Class 9, 3rd – Amaar Zubair, Class 10.
