JKPICCA meets LG, seeks urgent action on subsidies, transport, agrochemical regulations

Jammu: A delegation from the Jammu and Kashmir Fruits and Vegetables Processing and Integrated Cold Chain Association (JKPICCA), led by its President, Bashir Ahmad Naikoo, met with the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to address pressing issues impacting the fruit and vegetable sector. The delegation urged immediate resolution of delays in state subsidies, restrictions on fruit transportation, and the sale of counterfeit pesticides and fungicides, emphasizing their impact on farmers and industry stakeholders.

The delegation highlighted the delay in state subsidies, stressing the need for timely disbursement to ensure financial stability and growth in the sector. They urged the government to expedite payments so that stakeholders receive the intended benefits without unnecessary hurdles.

A major concern was the halt in fruit-laden trucks from Controlled Atmosphere (CA) storage facilities due to one-way traffic restrictions in recent days. The delegation emphasized the need for uninterrupted movement of these trucks to prevent delays in deliveries to markets across India, ensuring fruit quality and minimizing financial losses for farmers and traders.

The issue of spurious pesticides and fungicides was also raised, with JKPICCA calling for mandatory testing of every batch by accredited laboratories. The delegation urged the government to implement strict regulations to curb the sale of fake agrochemicals, which pose a serious threat to crop health and farmers’ livelihoods.

The delegation also discussed the urgent need for a comprehensive crop insurance policy to protect farmers against unforeseen losses. Other industry concerns were also presented, with JKPICCA requesting the Lieutenant Governor’s intervention in implementing effective solutions that will support the entire agricultural supply chain.

JKPICCA reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for fruit and vegetable stakeholders and working closely with the government to ensure sustainable growth and policy improvements in the sector.
