KCCI resents its exclusion from SIDCO, SICOP, JKCL, JKHHC, other Boards

Srinagar: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry expresses its strong resentment regarding exclusion of KCCI from recently reconstituted Board of Directors of J&K State Industrial Development Corporation Limited (SIDCO), J&K Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Limited (SICOP), Jammu and Kashmir Cements Limited (JKCL), Jammu and Kashmir Handicrafts and Handloom Corporation (JKHHC), Jammu and Kashmir Industries Limited (JKIL) and Jammu and Kashmir Khadi & Village Industries Board (KVIB).

The exclusion of KCCI, the Chamber registers a vehement objection against the representational integrity of these boards, as it effectively leaves them without voices from local stakeholders who are directly affected by the policies crafted for handicrafts and industry.

KCCI in the past used to have a representation in these boards to articulate the interests of the business community.

The KCCI as an apex business chamber of Kashmir has historically played a crucial role in advising and shaping policies, and its absence, along with that of other key industrial representatives, is alarming.

KCCI underscored the importance of local representation on such boards, emphasizing the need for the government to consult representatives to devise meaningful and purposeful policies. The chamber recalls its pivotal role in advocating for the interests of the handicrafts, industrial community. The absence of KCCI from decision-making processes signifies a troubling disregard for the contributions made by those who understand the local business landscape.

The chamber acknowledged the invaluable knowledge and real-world insights that local stakeholders bring, emphasizing that the inclusion of organizations like KCCI is vital to ensure that policies are well-informed, realistic, and tailored to the needs of the sector.

Furthermore, KCCI cautioned that decisions made without considering input from stakeholders risk being ineffective or even counterproductive. The integration of grassroots perspectives is critical for developing policies that foster investment, tackle regional challenges, and stimulate meaningful growth.

KCCI calls for immediate restoration of its representation on the Boards of Directors of industrial, Handicrafts PSUs, and high-level decision-making committees. The engagement with the business chamber apex body is key to fostering collaboration, transparency, and an environment conducive to sustainable growth, as KCCI remains committed to working towards a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir.
