Forest Dept holds plantation drive in Srinagar

Srinagar: In an effort to combat climate change and enhance urban greenery, the Forest Department organized a winter plantation drive today at Basivan Zeethyar, Srinagar, under the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.” This initiative aims to instill a sense of responsibility towards the environment and encourage community participation in afforestation efforts.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from various stakeholders, including Dr. Mehraj Sheikh, the Divisional Forest Officer, Urban Forestry Srinagar, and Nazir Benazir, NGO and Member Green India Mission, Range Officers and forest frontline staff.

“Planting a tree is not just about adding greenery; it is about nurturing life. With the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, we aspire to create a legacy for future generations. Every tree planted today is a step toward a healthier planet”, stated the Conservator of Forests, Srinagar Circle Tawheed Ahmad Deva.

Dr. Mehraj Sheikh, DFO Urban echoed this sentiment, highlighting the significance of engaging the community in such initiatives. “Our forests are not only vital for our environment but also for our cultural heritage. By involving local citizens, we foster a deeper connection with nature and inspire stewardship.”

Nazir Benazir, NGO and Member Green India Mission added, “This drive is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together as a community. Every participant today is a guardian of our environment, and together, we can make a substantial impact.”

Spokesperson of the Forest Department said “the winter plantation drive successfully saw the planting of hundreds of saplings, with participants eagerly contributing to the cause. The Forest Department remains committed to nurturing these young trees, ensuring they thrive and flourish in the years to come. As the campaign continues, the Forest Department invites all residents of Srinagar to join hands in this noble endeavor. Together, let us plant the seeds of hope and sustainability for a greener tomorrow”.
