Cybersecurity awareness: PHDCCI Kashmir organises session with M Y Kichloo, SSP J&K Cyber CICE

Srinagar, Oct 14: The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) Kashmir held a  cybersecurity awareness  interaction today, featuring M.Y. Kichloo, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the J&K Cyber Crime Investigation Center of Excellence, at PHD House, Rajbagh, Srinagar.

The session focused on enhancing awareness around critical cybersecurity challenges and the latest trends in cybercrime, particularly those emerging through online gaming platforms. Shri Kichloo provided a detailed overview of various cyber threats currently affecting individuals and businesses alike, including phishing, email spoofing, fake return-on-investment (ROI) schemes, ransomware attacks, data breaches, payment card theft, cyber extortion, cryptojacking, cyber espionage, copyright infringement, illegal online gambling, and fraudulent mirror websites.

In his address, Mr  Kichloo highlighted the rising incidence of cybercrime targeting high-profile individuals, such as elderly citizens, medical professionals, and young people, resulting in substantial financial losses. He stressed the importance of vigilance and maintaining an informed approach to safeguarding against these growing digital threats.

Mr Kichloo also shared practical steps for reporting cybercrime, urging participants to use the official website [www.cybercrime.gov.in](http://www.cybercrime.gov.in) or the toll-free helpline number 1930. He further recommended several cybersecurity tools, including mobile security apps such as MobiArmour, Lookout, ProtonMail, and DuckDuckGo, along with websites like VirusTotal.com and Sancharsathi.co.in, to help protect personal and business data.

A.P. Vicky Shaw, Chairman of PHDCCI Kashmir, remarked, “PHDCCI Kashmir is deeply committed to promoting a safe and secure digital environment for our members and the wider community. By organizing this important interaction, we aim to equip individuals and businesses with the knowledge and resources necessary to effectively navigate the ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats.”

The event was well-attended, with participants including PHDCCI Kashmir Co-Chair Himayoun Wani, Executive Committee members Syed Pervaiz Kaiser, Shabir Abdullah, Haleem Bhat, Shahid Khan, Syed Zainab, Er. Owais Raja, CA Anil Sharma, and young invitees Azeem Wani, Mr. Durani, and Faisal Simon.

This initiative marks another step forward in PHDCCI Kashmir’s ongoing efforts to support cybersecurity education and preparedness across various sectors.
