Late M. L. Razdan honoured with ‘HoF Award-2024’; TASK says a proud moment

Srinagar, Sept 14: Late Mohan Lal Razdan, a pioneer in Kashmir’s tourism industry, was posthumously honored with the prestigious Hall of Fame Award at the 39th IATO Annual Convention in Bhopal. The award, conferred by the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), recognized his significant contributions to tourism in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, particularly for founding Razdan Holidays and introducing global tourists to the region.

Ibrahim Siah, President of the Travel Agents Society of Kashmir (TASK), and Nasir Shah, IATO Chairman (J&K), expressed pride in Mr. Razdan’s recognition, emphasizing the enduring legacy of his contributions to the state’s tourism industry.

Mr. Razdan, who started his tourism venture in 1957, was instrumental in opening up Kashmir and Ladakh to the world, conducting group tours, and leading significant expeditions.

“His pioneering efforts, such as organizing the first group tours to Ladakh in 1974 and leading a Swiss expedition team in 1979, played a key role in establishing Kashmir as a major destination on the global tourism map. His work in bringing Bollywood films to Kashmir in the 1970s and 80s further amplified the region’s prominence”, TASK said in a statement to Ziraat Times.

The award was received by his son, Sanjay Razdan, in the presence of members from the J&K and Ladakh tourism trade, and celebrated Mr. Razdan’s lifelong dedication to the tourism sector, along with his deep social impact through philanthropy.
