NLCO & Lakes Authority launch 3rd phase of Khushalsar spring rejuvenation

Srinagar, 10 Aug: The Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO), in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Lake Conservation Management Authority (LC&MA), has initiated the rejuvenation of the third spring at Khushalsar as part of its flagship community-driven eco-initiative, Mission Ehsaas. This project aims to revitalize the spring, crucial to the local ecosystem, through a comprehensive community-based approach.

The event featured the presence of Dr. Bashir Bhat, Vice-Chairman of LC&MA, as Chief Guest, along with  Rauf Trumboo, President of TAAK. Their participation, alongside local residents, students, and community leaders, highlighted the collective effort required for successful environmental conservation.

NLCO Chairman Manzoor Wangnoo expressed heartfelt thanks to all stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of community empowerment in environmental stewardship. “This initiative goes beyond restoring a spring; it’s about empowering our community to take ownership of their environment. Our efforts today will ensure that Khushalsar thrives for future generations.”

Wangnoo also stressed the need for government action to connect local sewage systems to STPs, noting that the long-term success of the project depends on this crucial infrastructure.

Dr. Bashir Bhat remarked, “The rejuvenation of Khushalsar’s springs demonstrates the power of collaboration between the government, community, and stakeholders. We are committed to supporting these efforts with all necessary resources to preserve Kashmir’s natural heritage.”

TAAK President Rauf Trumboo highlighted the involvement of students as particularly inspiring, stating, “They represent the future of our conservation efforts, and their participation shows a growing commitment among the younger generation.”

NLCO Chief Coordinator Dr. Touseef Bhat added, “Our mission is driven by a deep commitment to ecological balance and sustainability. The active participation of the community, especially the youth, gives us hope for lasting change and a healthier environment.”

Students played a crucial role in the day’s activities, symbolizing the growing commitment of the younger generation to safeguarding natural resources and the importance of educational engagement in ecological preservation.
