Rs 9000 crore Jammu Airport expansion to be ready by Dec 2026

Srinagar, Aug 20: Work on the ambitious Jammu Airport expansion is likely to begin from September 2023 in full swing, with the expansion work of to cost Rs 9,000 crore. The expansion work is scheduled to be ready by December 2026.

According to the project expansion docuents, the expanded airport will have three times the existing passenger and flight handling capacity with the floor capacity increasing from 14,500 square meters area to 40,000 square meters.

The new runway will be 4,000 meters long and 45 meters wide. It will be able to handle larger aircraft, such as the Boeing 777 and the Airbus A380.

Importantly, the new airport terminal will have  entry and exit points towards fourth Tawi Bridge in Bhagwati Nagar avoiding the current tight conditions through the airport road.

The new terminal building will have 36 check-in counters, six aerobridges, aprons, 16 self check-in kiosks, 11 security check lanes and an apron for parking 13 code C-aircraft.

With the expansion of the airport in the first phase, there will be taxiing facilities for 13 aircraft, which will be increased in the second phase.
While presently, the airport is able to handle about 30 to 35 flights on a daily basis, the expanded airport will be able to handle much higher number of aircrafts.
