Srinagar: J&K High Court has directed Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to allow the holding of elections of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in 15 days time.
The judgment has come on a petition filed by Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad, the current President of KCC&I. In his petition, Mr Sheikh had sought directions to the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar to permit the holding of elections of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the earliest.
Pertinently, KCC&I executive body election date was earlier fixed as April 26, 2021. However, the polls were deferred just a day ago when the District Administration declared Sonawar area of Srinagar as a Covid red zone, where Amar Singh Club, the proposed polling center is situated.
Justice Tashi Rabstan, in his order issued on Monday said, “this application is disposed of with a direction to the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar to conduct the elections of the Executive Committee of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry within a period of 15 days from the date of receipt of the copy of this order, to be supplied by the applicants herein, provided the Sonwar area where Amar Singh Club is situated has not been declared as a containment zone as also keeping in view the feasibility to conduct the elections in view of Covid-19 pandemic.”
Court has already formed an Election Committee of six persons for conducting the election of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
