Shah Anwar Colony residents appeal DC Srinagar for barricade removal

Srinagar: Following the declaration of the Shah Anwar Colony, Hyderpora, as one of the several containment zones in Srinagar, officials on Friday started erecting barricades to the only entrance and exit of the colony, worrying the hundreds of households in the area.

Anxious residents told Ziraat Times that erecting permanent-looking barricades makes no sense as such barricading is likely to create a crisis, especially for people who require daily medical attention and serve in essential services.

“This barricading has to have more practical and effective alternative. Instead of barricading, authorities should undertake mass Covid19 testing in containment zones, put in measures to ensure that there is no indoor crowding at any place and that Covid19 people remain largely indoors”, a resident told Ziraat Times.

Several doctors from the area have expressed surprise over the move and have appealed Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Hanief Balkhi and Tehsildar Chanpora for removing the barricade and work with the colony welfare committee in ensuring more practical and effective containment measures.

“We are ready to work in close cooperation with the administration in ensuring mass testing, isolation and containing non-essential gatherings and movement in the area”, a key member of Shah Anwar Colony Welfare Committee told Ziraat Times.

Calls made to the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar and Tehsildar Chanpora were not immediately responded to. Ziraat Times will be following up on this development.
