Srinagar, Nov 15: The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) Kashmir on Saturday expressed profound grief over the accidental explosion at the Nowgam Police Station, which killed at least nine people, including police, forensic and civil personnel, and left many others critically injured.
In a statement issued to Ziraat Times, A.P. Vicky Shaw, Chairman PHDCCI Kashmir, said the incident had caused immense shock across the Valley, especially as it came close on the heels of the recent blast in Delhi. “We were still recovering from the deep scars of the Delhi tragedy, and this mishap in Nowgam has left us numb with grief,” Shaw said.
He described the loss of trained personnel who were handling seized explosives as “irreplaceable,” adding that the business fraternity stands united with the bereaved families. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to all those who lost their loved ones. We mourn the brave police, forensic and civil officials who served with courage and dedication,” he said.
Shaw also commended the personnel who routinely handle high-risk materials to ensure public safety, calling their sacrifice a reminder of the dangers they face in the line of duty.
Extending solidarity with families affected both in Kashmir and in Delhi, PHDCCI Kashmir said it is praying for the swift recovery of all injured in the two incidents. Shaw urged authorities to thoroughly investigate the causes behind both tragedies to ensure clarity, accountability and improved safety measures.
The Chamber called for unity and resilience during what it described as a moment of collective sorrow, stressing the need for comprehensive support to affected households and a review of safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
