Members Warn Adhoc Committee Will Stand Dissolved if Poll Process Not Initiated Within a Week

Srinagar: The Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) on Monday held a crucial meeting in Srinagar, during which its Executive Members, District Presidents, and Zonal Representatives unanimously passed a resolution demanding the immediate initiation of elections for the Association’s governing body within one week.

The meeting, chaired by PSAJK State Vice President Manzoor Ahmad, was convened to review the functioning of the current Adhoc Committee and to assess the delay in launching the constitutionally mandated election process.

Participants expressed serious concern that nearly a month had passed without formal progress, despite the Adhoc President having been entrusted with the sole responsibility of conducting free and fair elections at all levels.

Members Express Concern Over Delay

In a detailed deliberation, members noted that the Adhoc President had been given a limited and specific mandate to complete elections within three months as per the PSAJK Constitution. However, they observed that no visible steps had been taken to initiate the process.

The meeting’s participants also alleged that several unnecessary committees had been formed even as the election remained pending. They further objected to the inclusion of individuals “not associated with PSAJK” in some committees, terming the move “a blow to transparency and legitimacy.”

Members also took exception to the sudden cancellation of a scheduled meeting without proper explanation, which they said had deepened apprehensions about the current leadership’s commitment to collective decision-making.

Resolution Passed Unanimously

Following an intense discussion, the participants unanimously passed a resolution setting a strict deadline for the election process.

“The election process must begin within one week from the issuance of this resolution,” the statement said. “Elections shall be conducted strictly as per the Constitution and under the supervision of authorised State Executive Council Members.”

The resolution clarified that the Adhoc President was duty-bound to carry out this mandate and that any deviation, refusal, or deliberate delay would amount to non-compliance.

Significantly, the members agreed that if the election process was not initiated within the stipulated time frame, the current Adhoc Committee would automatically stand dissolved, and a fresh committee—comprising State Executive Members, District Presidents, and Zonal Representatives—would take charge to ensure impartial and timely elections.

Commitment to Democratic Values

The Association reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, transparency, and accountability, declaring that no individual or group would be permitted to compromise the organisation’s democratic spirit or structure.

“PSAJK is a democratic institution whose strength lies in collective decision-making and organisational discipline,” the resolution stated. “We cannot allow uncertainty or individual interests to dictate the Association’s course.”

Members pledged to protect the Association’s constitutional framework and ensure the conduct of free and fair elections within the prescribed timeline.

Widespread Representation

The meeting was attended by a large number of representatives from across Jammu and Kashmir, including:
Majid Bhat (Central Kashmir President), Mohammad Syed Wani (District President Anantnag), Bilal Ahmad Bhat (District President Srinagar), Waseem Sidiq (District President Kulgam), Dr. Sheikh Arshid (District President Pulwama), Dr. Yassir Ramzan (District President Bandipora), G.M. Mughal (Kupwara Zone Sogam), Akhtar Salafi (Zonal President Lolab), Abdul Majeed Shaheen (Spokesperson Lolab), Bilal Ahmad Baba (Zonal President Kangan), Subzar Ahmad Bhat (Zonal President H.C. Gam), and others.

Association’s Broader Mission

The meeting concluded with members reaffirming PSAJK’s broader mission of working for the welfare of students, teachers, and schools across Jammu and Kashmir.

They stated that while internal democratic procedures were essential for maintaining legitimacy, the Association remained committed to its core objectives of improving education standards, advocating for school rights, and promoting harmony between private institutions and regulatory authorities.

“The election issue will not distract us from our service to education,” one senior member said. “But internal democracy must be restored to strengthen the Association and uphold its credibility.”

The resolution, adopted unanimously, has set a firm one-week deadline for initiating the election process—marking what many members called “a turning point” in restoring democratic functioning within the PSAJK.
