Jammu, 20 November: The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Jammu today hosted the “ICC Jammu Trade & Logistics Conclave 2025,” bringing together senior government officials, policymakers, industry leaders, logistics experts and members of civil society to discuss the strengthening of Jammu & Kashmir’s trade and logistics ecosystem. The event coincides with the 100th year of the Indian Chamber of Commerce.
Rahul Sahai, Chair of ICC J&K, welcomed participants and thanked Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Chief Guest, for what he described as transformative governance reforms undertaken in Jammu & Kashmir since 2020. Other dignitaries present included Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department, and Debmalya Banerjee, Regional Director, ICC Northern Region.
J&K Logistics Policy 2025 to Be Unveiled Soon
Addressing the Conclave, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced that the Jammu & Kashmir Logistics Policy 2025 would be released shortly. He said Jammu is rapidly emerging as a trade and logistics hub linking Ladakh and the Kashmir Valley with national trade corridors.
He noted that expanded road and rail networks over the past five years had unlocked significant economic potential. The National Logistics Policy launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, had catalysed reforms in digital integration, multimodal connectivity and infrastructure planning across India.
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted that improved storage facilities, multimodal links and last-mile connectivity were ensuring that even remote regions remained connected to markets. Rising e-commerce penetration and a growing retail sector were contributing to increasing demand for warehousing and logistics services across J&K.
Key Features of the Upcoming Logistics Policy
The Lieutenant Governor said the forthcoming Logistics Policy will offer a comprehensive framework focusing on:
-
Development of multimodal logistics infrastructure
-
Establishment of dry ports and warehousing zones
-
Greater private sector participation
-
Granting industry status to the logistics sector, enabling full benefits available under the industrial policy
He added that 49 major logistics and connectivity projects—worth ₹3,000 crore—had been mapped under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan to reduce logistics costs, improve coordination and strengthen last-mile connectivity to industrial estates.
He also announced the setting up of a Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) at Vijaypur, Jammu, under a PPP–DBFOT model, which will feature an inland container depot, warehousing complexes, cold storage facilities, a truck terminal and a container freight station.
