SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 17: The Handicrafts and Handloom Department, Kashmir, is set to organize a three-day Artisan Carnival at Sher-e-Kashmir Park from November 20 to 22, celebrating the Valley’s living heritage of craft under the ongoing ‘Soulful Kashmir’ campaign.
As part of its continued ‘Know Your Artisan’ outreach, the department will bring together more than 30 master artisans from across Kashmir, offering visitors an opportunity to witness some of the region’s finest handicrafts and handlooms.
According to an official spokesman, the carnival will feature niche craft displays created by Kashmir’s acclaimed artisans—Shilp Gurus, Padma Shri awardees, and National and UT Award winners. Visitors will also have access to live demonstrations of Sozni and Crewel embroidery, Pashmina and Kani weaving, Papier-Mâché, copperware (Kandkari), willow work, and traditional tweed making.
Interactive ‘Meet the Masters’ sessions will allow the public to engage directly with celebrated craftsmen and learn about the skills, techniques, and history behind their work.
The department said the event forms a key component of the ‘Soulful Kashmir’ initiative, aimed at reviving and promoting traditional crafts while building sustainable market linkages for artisans. “Kashmir’s crafts are not just products but centuries-old stories woven by golden hands,” the spokesman noted. “This carnival is our tribute to the artisans who keep these traditions alive, and an invitation to all craft lovers to experience the true soul of Kashmir.”
The Artisan Carnival is expected to draw craft enthusiasts, designers, buyers, and tourists, offering them an immersive cultural showcase at the historic Chinar-lined venue.
