‘Youm-e-Marghoob’ Held in Memory of Eminent Poet Prof. Marghoob Banihali

Srinagar: A grand literary event titled “Youm-e-Marghoob” was held at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, to pay tribute to renowned poet, thinker, and educationist Prof. Marghoob Banihali. The event was organized by the Marghoob Foundation Srinagar under the patronage of Adbi Markaz Kamraz J&K, drawing an impressive gathering of writers, poets, scholars, and cultural figures from across the Valley.

The programme commenced with a soulful recitation of Kalaam-e-Marghoob by young artist Hanzala Hussain Saqib and his team, followed by the rendition of the Adbi Markaz Kamraz anthem, composed by Prof. Banihali himself.

Welcoming the guests, Dr. Mushtaq Marghoob, Chairman of the Foundation and son of the late poet, said the organization is dedicated to preserving and promoting Prof. Banihali’s intellectual and spiritual legacy, particularly among the youth, to strengthen their bond with Kashmiri language and culture.

The function was presided over by Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqi, former Vice-Chancellor of IUST, who described Prof. Banihali as “a symbol of an intellectual movement who infused Kashmiri poetry with faith, truth, and social awakening.”

In his keynote address, Prof. Shad Ramzan, Convener of the Sahitya Akademi’s Kashmiri Advisory Board, highlighted that Prof. Banihali’s poetry provided Kashmiri literature “a distinct philosophical direction rooted in Sufi thought and humanism.”

As part of the ceremony, the prestigious ‘Khil’at-e-Marghoob 2025’ award was conferred upon noted historian Dr. Abdul Ahad, while poet Muneera Marghoob’s new collection “Muzar Khayalan Hund” was officially released and received with admiration.

Mohammad Amin Bhat, President of Adbi Markaz Kamraz, reflected on Prof. Banihali’s deep association with the organization, noting that his vision “strengthened the relationship between literature and spirituality.”

The event also featured felicitations for Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqi, Prof. Shad Ramzan, Shabnam Tilgami, and Jameel Ansari for their contributions to literature and culture, while Hanzala Hussain was honored for his accomplishments in music.

The proceedings were conducted by Shabnam Tilgami, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Tariq Marghoob, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, guests, and participants for making the event a fitting tribute to Prof. Banihali’s enduring legacy.
