SRINAGAR: A delegation from the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), led by President Javid Ahmad Tenga, held an introductory meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan today.
The meeting served to introduce the newly elected office bearers and executive committee members of the KCCI to the LG, who offered his congratulations and good wishes to the new leadership. LG Sinha assured the delegation of his full support in resolving challenges faced by trade, commerce, and industry in the Kashmir valley.
The delegation brought up two primary areas of concern impacting the local economy:
Suspension of Cargo Services: The KCCI highlighted the immediate problem of Air India suspending cargo services to Gulf countries from Srinagar Airport. The Chamber noted that this suspension is severely affecting exporters’ ability to fulfill delivery commitments, resulting in significant financial losses.
Tourism Promotion: The KCCI outlined plans to boost the region’s tourist influx, including a proposed roadshow in Mumbai and a meeting with Ambassadors in Delhi. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing Kashmir’s visibility as a top tourist destination and addressing negative travel advisories issued by certain foreign countries.
The KCCI also expressed its gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor for his continuous support of the handicrafts sector, crediting awards and recognition given to artisans and weavers with boosting the morale of the local industry.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from the LG to work closely with the new KCCI leadership to address the issues raised.
