Massive landslide hits Khooni Nallah along Srinagar-Jammu highway. Artificial lake formed, people being avacuated

Ramban: A massive landslide struck the mountainside opposite the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) at Khooni Nallah in Ramban district today, narrowly sparing a human settlement close to the slide area.

The slide has blocked the nallah’s flow, forming a large dam-like structure and raising concerns about potential flash floods. Several homes near the site had a close escape, with residents evacuated as a precaution. The district administration, alongside the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), is monitoring the situation and working to mitigate risks from the blocked nallah.

This latest landslide is seen as another ecological disaster along the critical highway in the mountains rendered unstable due to intense human activity.

Environmentalists warn of recurring landslides in the fragile Pir Panjal range, urging immediate measures to prevent an ecological crisis.
