In Mumbai, J&K professionals join hands to support newcomers’ network

Ziraat Times Team Report

Mumbai: In a heartening development for residents of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) seeking a new life in India’s financial capital, a group of nearly 100 Kashmiri professionals has come together to launch a unique support initiative — the J&K Bombay Circle.

Formed as a non-profit collective, the group aims to act as a support network for new arrivals from Jammu & Kashmir, especially students, job seekers and families relocating to Mumbai for better opportunities in education, employment and healthcare.

Founded with a purpose

The initiative is spearheaded by Ikram Bukhari, a banker by profession, who envisioned the Circle as a practical support system for fellow Kashmiris arriving in the metropolis.

“Most newcomers face challenges in starting life in a new city. We’ve been through it, so we now want to lend a helping hand,” said Ikram Bukhari while speaking to Ziraat Times.

Diverse, accomplished membership

The group brings together professionals from a wide array of fields — media, business, banking, healthcare, IT, entertainment, government and more. Other notable members include:

Mahrukh Inayat-  Senior Media Professional
Dr Aijaz Ashai – Celebrity Physio
Mir Sarwar – Actor
Jaan Nissar Lone – Singer
Mehtab Jagil – IRS
Jasleen Marwah – Restaurant owner
Dr. Suneem Khan

The J&K Bombay Circle focuses on three key areas of assistance:

Employment support: The group leverages its network to help J&K residents secure meaningful employment. This includes connecting candidates with job opportunities and providing market navigation support.

Educational guidance: The Circle aims to help students from J&K by offering guidance on university applications, scholarships, and finding accommodation near campuses.

Healthcare facilitation: With senior medical professionals like Dr. Aijaz Ashai and Dr. Suhail Mir on board, the group facilitates access to specialists, and in some cases, supports access to free cancer treatment for those in need.

Raising awareness and community engagement

The group also seeks to raise awareness about resources, accommodation options, and professional networks available for Kashmiri residents in Mumbai.

“We, a collective of over 90 members, are actively guiding newcomers — but many are still unaware of our platform,” said one member. “Media visibility is crucial to reach them and extend our support.”

Open for participation
The J&K Bombay Circle is not just for those seeking help — it’s also a call to other Kashmiri professionals living in Mumbai to give back by contributing their time, experience, and networks.

Entry into the group is by invitation or recommendation. Professionals across HR, Engineering, Media, IT, Banking, Bollywood and government services are encouraged to join.

Many of the members have made Mumbai their home for over 30 years, giving the group a strong local foundation.
