PHDCCI, SIDBI Poultry Entrepreneurship Training Concludes at Kupwara

KUPWARA: A three-day  training programme on poultry entrepreneurship concluded successfully today in Kupwara, aiming to equip aspiring entrepreneurs in Kashmir with practical skills and business knowledge for launching profitable poultry ventures. The event, held from June 24 to June 26, 2025, was organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI)–Kashmir in association with the Manager Poultry Production, Hariparbat of the Animal Husbandry Department Kashmir, and supported by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).

According to a statement issued to Ziraat Times, the program, designed to promote youth-led enterprise development in the livestock sector, the programme featured expert-led sessions on poultry farming, disease management, feed formulation, and sustainable business strategies.

Renowned veterinary professionals and technical experts including Dr. Afaq Amin Najar, Dr. Abbas Rashid, Dr. Peer Abdul Faheem, Dr. Ujala Nabi Khan, Dr. Asif Majeed, Dr. Aamir Suhail, Dr. Mehvish Santosh, and Dr. Safoora Kashafi conducted the technical sessions. The business and entrepreneurship modules were facilitated by Bilal Kawoosa, General Convenor of PHDCCI Kashmir; Syed Parvaiz Kaiser, Convenor of Industrial Affairs; Shahid Khan, Convenor of the Education Committee; and Iqbal Fayaz Jan, Deputy Director of PHDCCI Kashmir.

Key highlights of the training included:

  • Comprehensive technical training: covering modern poultry farming techniques, disease control, and feed optimization.

  • Financial and market orientation: with sessions focused on financial planning, market linkages, and navigating government schemes.

  • Hands-on learning: including practical demonstrations and real-world case studies.

In his concluding address, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer of Kupwara, Dr. Shabir Ahmad Teli, reiterated the department’s commitment to supporting youth in the poultry sector through technical aid and government incentives. He emphasized the increasing demand for poultry products in Kashmir, calling it a promising sector for sustainable entrepreneurship.

Certificates were awarded to participants, many of whom described the training as transformative and expressed readiness to start their own poultry businesses.

Encouraged by the programme’s success, PHDCCI, the Animal Husbandry Department, and SIDBI plan to replicate similar training sessions in Baramulla, Bandipora, and Ganderbal in the coming weeks. The organizers also pledged ongoing mentorship and handholding support to ensure long-term success of new entrepreneurs in the region’s growing poultry industry.
