Mehbooba Mufti launches ‘Together for Amarnath Yatra’ initiative in Pahalgam

Pahalgam: In a bid to promote communal harmony and reinforce local support for the annual Amarnath Yatra, PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti addressed a gathering of stakeholders at Pahalgam, the traditional base camp for the pilgrimage.

Speaking to a diverse audience comprising businessmen, taxi drivers, hoteliers, pony walas, and civil society representatives, Mufti urged collective efforts to ensure a safe, welcoming, and smooth pilgrimage season under the banner of “Together for Amarnath Yatra.”

“The Amarnath Yatra has always been a symbol of Kashmir’s syncretic culture and our age-old tradition of hospitality,” she said, emphasizing that supporting the Yatra is not just a matter of logistics but a reaffirmation of Kashmir’s pluralism and economic resilience.

Mufti also highlighted the economic significance of the pilgrimage for local communities, particularly in South Kashmir, and called upon the administration to ensure that the concerns of local service providers are heard and addressed.

The initiative comes at a time when security arrangements for the Yatra are being intensified, and civil society has been urged to play a proactive role in fostering peace and mutual respect.
