Fusing Kashmir’s traditional architecture in modern construction: INTACH, Amar Singh Club to hold seminar on June 14

Srinagar: In a timely initiative aimed at bridging Kashmir’s architectural heritage and modernity, a seminar titled “Enduring Appeal of Traditional Architecture: Lessons for Modern Construction” will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the prestigious Amar Singh Club, Srinagar. The event is being jointly organized by the INTACH Kashmir Chapter and the Amar Singh Club, Srinagar.

Scheduled from 10 AM to 2 PM, the seminar will bring together some of the most respected voices in architecture, conservation, and urban planning from across Jammu and Kashmir to reflect on the region’s time-honoured building traditions and their relevance in today’s construction practices.

Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to the  Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, will be the Chief Guest at the event.

The speakers at the event include:

The seminar will be moderated by  M Saleem Beg, Convener, INTACH J&K Chapter, with a vote of thanks to be delivered by Nasir Hamid Khan, Secretary of Amar Singh Club.

According to the organizers, the event aims to highlight how traditional Kashmiri architectural practices — noted for their climate responsiveness, seismic resilience, and cultural depth — can serve as vital models for more sustainable and context-sensitive construction in the 21st century.

The seminar is open to architects, engineers, planners, students, civil society members, and anyone interested in the future of Kashmir’s built environment.
