129th Urs of Hazrat Baba Nizam-ud-Din Kiyanvi (RA) at Baba Nagri in Kashmir attracts thousands of devotees

Baba Nagri (Kangan): Thousands of devotees from across Jammu & Kashmir and beyond gathered at Baba Nagri, Kangan, to mark the 129th annual Urs Mubarak of Hazrat Baba Nizam-ud-Din Kiyanvi (RA), one of Kashmir’s most revered Sufi community saints.

The spiritual commemoration, organized under the aegis of Hazrat Baba Ji Sahib Larvi Trust, witnessed the participation of religious scholars, spiritual leaders and followers of all ages. Devotees thronged the shrine complex nestled amidst the serene hills of Baba Nagri of Ganderbal district, engaging in special prayers, recitation of Darood-o-Azkaar, Naat Sharif, and Sufi gatherings.

The Urs, which began early morning with Fajr prayers and special recitations, reached its spiritual peak with the final congregational Dua, led by the custodians of the shrine and respected Sufi spiritual guides. Hazrat Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi Sahib, Member of Parliament and a key spiritual and community leader, addressed the gathering and highlighted the timeless message of peace, tolerance, and spiritual enlightenment preached by Hazrat Baba Nizam-ud-Din Kiyanvi (RA).

“The teachings of Hazrat Baba Ji (RA) remain deeply relevant in today’s world torn by divisions and materialism. His life was dedicated to service, humility, and love for all humanity,” Mian Altaf Sahib said in his address.

Elaborate arrangements were made by local administration and shrine authorities to accommodate the large gathering. Volunteers, healthcare workers, and municipal teams worked round the clock to ensure smooth conduct of the Urs.

The Urs has historically served as a major spiritual and cultural convergence point in Kashmir, attracting not just devotees but scholars and seekers of spiritual knowledge. This year’s Urs was marked by peaceful participation and increased footfall, especially from south and north Kashmir and parts of Jammu region.

Devotees expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the holy occasion. “It is a spiritual homecoming,” said Abdul Rashid, a visitor from Anantnag. “We come here every year to renew our connection with the divine and to seek the blessings of Hazrat Baba Ji (RA).”

The event concluded with langar (community meal) distribution and a reaffirmation of commitment to the values of brotherhood, compassion, and harmony.
