Ziraat Times Impact: Power Dept initiates de-stringing Sanat Nagar 132kV transmission line to allow unhindered flyover work

Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir Power Transmission Corporation Limited (JKPTCL) has initiated  measures to address the safety risks posed by the ongoing construction of the Sanat Nagar Flyover, following revelations of unaddressed hazards under high-voltage transmission line and the fallout on Sanat Nagar flyover construction.

The move, which is being appreciated by the public and also the construction workers at the flyover sites, comes after Ziraat Times reported oversights in planning, including the startling proximity of the flyover to a 132kV transmission tower— raising alarms about worker safety and the delay in the Sanat Nagar flyover construction work.

Information shared with Ziraat Times suggests JKPTCL Transmission Line Maintenance Division-II (Pampore) has proactively appreciated the imperative of the situation and has now formally proposed destringing one circuit of the 132kV Bemina-Rawalpora line (removing 2 bottom and 1 middle conductor) between Tower Locations 24–26.

The measure aims to ensure safe clearance for construction vehicles and workers operating beneath the live power lines and maintain power supply via cross-jumpering to avoid outages.

A technical communiqué (Ref: LOA No.TLMD-II/3826-30), cites  “continuous movement of heavy machinery” under the transmission line as an imminent risk. The Superintending Engineer (O&M Circle-I) has been directed to expedite approvals, while contractors (M/s Awaj Infra) are reported to be on standby for immediate execution.

highlighted the need for coordination between the R&B Department and JKPTCL to relocate the tower or adjust power infrastructure.

The latest JKPTCL letter (dated April 16) seems to acknowledges these planning deficiencies, urging the R&B Division to enforce the proposed “electrical SOPs” at the site.

These measures are expected to expedite the work at the site and avoid any further delays.
