Ziraat Times Team Report

SRINAGAR: In a crucial meeting held today, the Working Committee of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference passed seven unanimous resolutions, addressing recent violence, political aspirations of the region and the safety of J&K residents across the country.

Condemnation of Baisaran Attack and Tribute to Victims

The Committee strongly condemned the recent Baisaran terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, including that of a young Kashmiri, Syed Adil Hussain Shah. It also denounced the ongoing cross-border shelling that has killed 23 civilians in recent weeks. Expressing profound grief, the Committee extended its solidarity to the bereaved families and paid tribute to party members and activists who have passed away since the last meeting.

Commitment to Special Status and Statehood

Reiterating its political position, the Committee reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the restoration of J&K’s special constitutional status, stating that the issue is central to the dignity and aspirations of the region’s people.

In a separate but related resolution, the party urged the Government of India to immediately restore full statehood to Jammu & Kashmir, highlighting that such a commitment was made in Parliament and acknowledged by the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court.

Call for Peace and Constructive Dialogue

Welcoming recent ceasefire announcements, the Working Committee called for both India and Pakistan to uphold peace and engage in sustained dialogue to address the root causes of conflict and prevent future bloodshed.

Reaffirmation of Manifesto Promises

The party reiterated its commitment to the promises outlined in its political manifesto, pledging to continue its democratic and constitutional struggle for justice, peace, and the rights of J&K’s people.

Appreciation of Public Response and Warning Against Heavy-Handedness

The Committee expressed deep appreciation for the spontaneous and overwhelming condemnation of the Baisaran attack by the people of J&K. It praised the hospitality extended to stranded tourists in the aftermath and called on the Centre to recognise this show of solidarity.

The Committee cautioned against the use of heavy-handed tactics such as arbitrary arrests, youth harassment, and media intimidation, warning that such actions would alienate peaceful citizens who have stood firmly against violence.

Condemnation of Harassment Outside J&K

Lastly, the party strongly condemned the reported harassment of students, traders, and residents from Jammu and Kashmir in other parts of the country. It called on state governments across India to ensure their safety, dignity, and protection, urging them to prevent further marginalisation of J&K citizens in the wake of recent events.
