Kashmir Fruit Growers’ Union appeals wholesale, retail sector to keep prices affordable amid current crisis

Srinagar: In light of the ongoing crisis in the Kashmir Valley, the Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union has issued a heartfelt appeal to all wholesale and retail fruit and vegetable dealers, urging them to ensure the availability of essential commodities at reasonable and discounted prices for the general public.

The appeal, made through an official circular by Bashir Ahmad Basheer —Chairman of the Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union and President of the New Kashmir Fruit Association, Parimpora — issued to Ziraat Times emphasizes the need for a collective humanitarian response to the prevailing challenges.

Highlighting that fruits and vegetables are daily essential items, the Union has called upon all dealers to exercise restraint and responsibility in pricing. The statement urges traders to moderate rates and prevent hoarding, ensuring that no section of society is deprived of these necessities.

“It is our duty as a community to act with compassion and provide relief to the people during these critical times,” the appeal reads. “Let us not allow hoarders or profiteers to exploit the situation.”

The Union also extended this appeal to those dealing with other essential commodities, requesting them to join in the effort by supplying goods at fair prices.

Mr. Bashir emphasized the importance of national unity and solidarity, stating, “This is a time to rise above commercial interests and prioritize the welfare of the people. We urge every stakeholder to act responsibly and with empathy.”

The New Kashmir Fruit Association has begun distributing this message widely through its network at the Fruit Marketing Complex in Parimpora to ensure compliance and cooperation from all dealers.

The call for price moderation comes amid rising concerns over accessibility and affordability of essential goods in the Valley, with the Union expressing confidence that this collective effort will help ease public hardship in these testing times.
