Srinagar: The Speaker of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly is set to constitute different House Committees, including three crucial financial committees.
Sources told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the process has begun to constitute these committees in accordance with the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
“The Legislative Assembly secretariat has sought names of MLAs from different political parties for their inclusion in these committees,” they said, adding that representation of the parties in these committees would be proportionate to their strength in the House.
As per Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in J&K Legislative Assembly, 13 House Committees have to be set- up for different functions.
Sources disclosed that the Speaker would first constitute three financial panels- estimates committee, public accounts committee and committee on public undertakings.
Among other committees, the Speaker is likely to constitute the privilege committee, environmental committee, petition committee, subordinate legislation committee, government assurances committee, rules committee, general purpose committee and library committee.
The House Committees play a vital role in scrutinizing policies, reviewing government decisions. They present their reports/ recommendations to the Assembly. —(KNO)
