CAIT Kashmir Urges Immediate Relief for Traders Hit by Dilli Haat Fire

Srinagar | Ziraat Times News Desk

The Kashmir chapter of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has called for urgent government intervention to support traders affected by the devastating fire at Delhi’s Dilli Haat market earlier this week. The incident, which destroyed nearly 25 shops, has severely impacted 7 to 8 establishments run by Kashmiri artisans and entrepreneurs.

A delegation from CAIT Kashmir, led by General Secretary Peer Imtiyaz ul Hassan, visited the site to assess the damage and extend solidarity to those affected. “The losses are devastating, especially for our Kashmiri traders who rely on such platforms to sustain their livelihoods outside the Valley,” Hassan stated during the visit.

The affected businesses, many of which specialized in traditional Kashmiri handicrafts, have not only suffered financial setbacks but are also grappling with the emotional toll of losing years of investment and hard work.

CAIT Kashmir acknowledged the swift response from Praveen Khandelwal, CAIT’s National Secretary General, who has pledged full support in advocating for compensation and rehabilitation from the concerned authorities.

Farhan Kitab, President of CAIT Kashmir Chapter, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to its members. “We stand firmly with our fellow businessmen and will ensure they receive all necessary aid to rebuild their businesses,” he said.

In its appeal, CAIT Kashmir has urged the government to take the following actions without delay:

  1. Launch a fair and transparent investigation into the cause of the fire.

  2. Provide immediate financial assistance and temporary workspace for affected traders.

  3. Expedite long-term rehabilitation efforts to help restore damaged businesses.

The traders’ body has also called on civil society groups, business communities, and the general public to show solidarity and support in this time of crisis.

The fire, which broke out on Wednesday night, gutted a significant portion of the Dilli Haat market—a popular hub for artisanal goods from across India.
