Yusmarg, Dodhpather, Bangus, Aharbal among 48 tourist spots closed temporarily by J&K government

Srinagar — In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people, the Jammu &  Kashmir government has ordered the temporary closure of 48 tourist destinations across the Union Territory as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of visitors and locals.

According to reports in India Today and Indian Express, the move comes amid heightened security concerns and intelligence inputs suggesting possible threats in high-footfall tourist areas. The closed destinations span several districts and include some of the Valley’s most scenic and popular spots.

Among the prominent destinations now off-limits to tourists are Yousmarg, Tousimaidan, Doodpathri, Aharbal, Kousarnag, Bangus, Verinag Garden, Sinthan Top, Margan Top, Akad Park, Habba Khatoon Point, and Babareshi. These locations are known for their natural beauty and draw thousands of tourists annually.

Several eco-tourism and forest destinations have also been closed, such as Kariwan Diver Chandigam, Mundij-Hamam-Markoot Waterfall, Khampoo, Bosnia, Vijitop, Forest Hill Cottage, Eco Village Resort (Dara), and Dachigam beyond the Trout Farm/Fisheries Farm.

Also included in the shutdown are heritage and religious sites like the Sun Temple, Jamia Masjid, and Badamwari, as well as hospitality establishments including Padshapal Resorts, Cherry Tree Resort (Faqir Gujri), and a few spots in Old Srinagar city.

Adventure and panoramic locations such as Astanmarg View Point, Astanmarg Paragliding, Mamneth and Mahadev Hills, and Naranag have also been temporarily restricted.

An official from the Department of Tourism confirmed the closures, adding, “Some destinations have been shut down temporarily while others have been provided with enhanced security cover. The safety of tourists remains our top priority.”

An official confirmation of this development is awaited.
