KCCI thanks people of Kashmir for protest shutdown over Pahalgam attack, appeals for safety of Kashmiris nationwide

Srinagar: In a deeply emotional statement delivered today, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) expressed strong condemnation of the recent terror attack in Baisaran, Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of innocent civilians, and called for national unity against violence.

Addressing members of the press, KCC&I President Javid Ahmad Tenga thanked the people of Kashmir for observing a complete shutdown on Wednesday in protest against the tragedy, describing it as a collective expression of grief and solidarity. “We are not here to talk about business losses,” Tenga said. “We are here to mourn human losses.”

He denounced the attack as “tragic and inhumane,” asserting that such violence has no place in Kashmiri society, culture, or values. “Kashmir has always been known for its hospitality,” he added, reiterating that the Valley stands united in its rejection of such brutality.

Tenga also raised alarm over reports of Kashmiri students and businessmen facing harassment in other parts of the country in the wake of the attack. “While our hearts are bleeding for the victims, we appeal to the Central Government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to urgently intervene and ensure the safety of Kashmiris living outside J&K.”

He emphasized that Wednesday’s shutdown was not just a protest but a powerful message of unity from the business community and the people of Kashmir against violence in all forms. “The loss suffered by the families of the victims is immeasurable. We share their grief, and we stand with them,” he said.

The KCC&I president stressed that human life takes precedence over commerce, stating, “Our primary concern is and always will be the sanctity of human life and the peace and security of all people in Kashmir.”

Tenga also reassured domestic and international tourists that Kashmir remains a safe and welcoming destination, highlighting the Valley’s enduring tradition of hospitality and the local population’s commitment to ensuring the safety of visitors.
