Kashmiri Pandit Samiti condemns attacks on Kashmiri students, urges compassion, protection

Srinagar: The Kashmiri Pandit Sangarash Samiti (KPSS) has expressed deep anguish and strong condemnation over the recent attacks on Kashmiri students across India following the tragic Pahalgam incident on April 22.

In a heartfelt statement, KPSS described the assaults on innocent students as “inhumane, unjustified, and morally indefensible.” Drawing from their own painful experiences of displacement and persecution since 1990, the organisation emphasized that collective punishment of young students, who have no role in the prevailing conflict, must be rejected by all just-minded citizens.

The KPSS appealed to the broader Kashmiri Pandit community across India to act as protectors rather than accusers, urging compassion over bitterness. “Those who have suffered must be the first to protect others from similar suffering,” the organisation stated, cautioning against allowing past trauma to fuel new cycles of injustice.

Highlighting the vulnerability of Kashmiri students pursuing education across the country, the KPSS called on the Government of India and State and Union Territory administrations to take immediate and effective steps to ensure their safety, dignity, and uninterrupted education. The organisation confirmed that it has formally communicated its concerns to all relevant authorities, seeking urgent intervention to prevent any further harassment.

KPSS also stressed that educational institutions must remain spaces of learning and safety, not battlegrounds of identity politics. “This moment calls not just for administrative action—it is a test of our collective national conscience,” the statement added.

In a powerful closing appeal, KPSS reaffirmed its commitment to building a just and inclusive future for Kashmir, reminding all that “we must not become the monsters we once fled, but instead be the light we once searched for.”
