Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J chairs maiden SAC meeting of KVK-Ramban

The first Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of KVK-Ramban was held at Government Polytechnic College Chanderkote in Ramban district in a hybrid mode.

The meeting was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) B. N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu and also graced by Prof. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension and Prof. Hema Tripathi, Associate Director Extension. The meeting was also attended by Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer and other district level officers of allied departments. Dr. O. C. Sharma, Chief Scientist at Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (CITH) was also present. Dr. Ashish Murai from ATARI Ludhiana was also connected with the SAC meeting in an online mode. 

While delivering the welcome address; Dr. Parveen Kumar SMS Ag. Extension at KVK-Ramban told the participating officers/officials that this is the first SAC meeting of KVK-Ramban since its establishment at Dhalwas Ramban in the year 2022. Dr. Raj Kumar, Sr. Scientist & Nodal Officer gave a detailed presentation of the work done by KVK-Ramban during the last three years and Action Plan for the year 2025-26. In his presentation, he presented the important achievements of KVK-Ramban and the thrust areas where the Kendra is focusing. 

Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J in his opening remarks called for promoting diversification based on an integrated farming system approach and exploit areas like poultry, goatry, beekeeping and sericulture. Prof. Tripathi also called upon for generation of scientific data based on different parameters from various research trials and activities being conducted by the Kendra. He also instructed all the line departments to work in close coordination with each other and develop plans based on local agro-climatic conditions.

Prof. Amrish Vaid Director Extension in his address stressed upon promotion of Niche crops like Anardana, Rajmash, Walnut and Pica nut, off season vegetable cultivation under protected conditions, cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants, and promotion of resource conservation technologies like rain water harvesting to overcome stress like conditions in the district which is largely rainfed.

Prof. Hema Tripathi Associate Director Extension in her speech emphasized upon need based and gender specific trainings for youths, farm women and farmers of the district. On this occasion, three publications of KVK-Ramban were also released by Vice Chancellor. Progressive farmers from the district Abdul Majeed Rounyal and Ms. Lalita Devi were also present. They also shared their thoughts and acknowledge the efforts of KVK-Ramban towards the farming community of the region. The meeting ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Parveen Kumar.
