Jammu: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today inaugurated four key facilities at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Jammu, during the annual Krishak Mela 2025 held at the R.S. Pura campus. The event brought together farmers, scientists, and policymakers to explore modern agricultural technologies and sustainable practices aimed at advancing Jammu and Kashmir’s agri-sector.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the ongoing transformation in the Union Territory’s agriculture and allied sectors under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to advancing Jammu & Kashmir’s agricultural landscape through innovative initiatives such as the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).
“We have taken several forward-looking steps to bring about a positive change in the region’s agricultural landscape. HADP has been a cornerstone initiative, and for the past three consecutive years, Jammu & Kashmir has recorded notable achievements in agricultural productivity,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Highlighting the region’s growing reputation as an agricultural leader, Shri Manoj Sinha noted that J&K has transitioned from adopting agricultural extension models of other states to becoming a model for others. “The success of our initiatives is now being recognized at the national level, and other states are looking to replicate our programs,” he added.
Focus on Farmer Outreach and Innovation
The Lieutenant Governor commended SKUAST Jammu for its extensive outreach efforts through Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and research stations. He urged the university to enhance direct engagement with farmers to ensure that research-driven innovations reach grassroots communities.
Shri Manoj Sinha also lauded the achievements of the university’s Incubation Centre, which has already supported over 100 youth and facilitated 35 startups with assistance from the Union Ministry of Agriculture. He encouraged further strengthening of such initiatives to promote agricultural transformation and regional economic growth.
Emphasis on GI Tagging and Export Promotion
Speaking about marketing strategies, the Lieutenant Governor informed that J&K has successfully secured Geographical Indication (GI) tags for several traditional products, significantly boosting their market value and ensuring authenticity. “Efforts are ongoing to obtain GI recognition for more local products to enhance their export potential and market reach,” he said.
Inauguration of New Facilities
During the event, Shri Manoj Sinha inaugurated the following facilities aimed at strengthening education, research, and farmer welfare:
- Fully Automated Poultry Production Unit, including a Post Graduate Laboratory on Poultry Research
- Sanskriti Post Graduate Girls’ Hostel
- Faculty Club
- Residential Quarters for faculty and staff
The new poultry unit is equipped with advanced infrastructure to promote efficient and sustainable poultry farming practices in the region.
Publications and New Initiatives Launched
The Lieutenant Governor also released a publication titled “Krishi Adharit Udhyamon ke Madhyam Se: Sashakt aur Smriddh Bhavishya ki Kheti”, compiled by KVK Jammu. In addition, he launched Radio Kissan SKUAST Jammu 90.8 FM, a mobile app designed to provide farmers with timely agricultural information and guidance.

The Krishak Mela 2025 serves as a vital platform for showcasing technological innovations in agriculture and fostering knowledge exchange between farmers, scientists, and policymakers. The event promotes sustainable farming methods and highlights opportunities in the agriculture sector.

The event was attended by Shri Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Prof. B N Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu; Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, SKUAST Jammu; Dr. Rajesh Katoch, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, SKUAST Jammu; along with senior government officials, faculty members, and a large number of farmers from across the region.
The Lieutenant Governor concluded his address by encouraging all stakeholders to work collaboratively to ensure Jammu & Kashmir remains at the forefront of agricultural innovation and sustainability.
