Forest Department begins sale of conifer plants. Each sapling to cost Rs 13.50

Srinagar: J&K Forest Department launched sale of conifer plants for general public, here today. The sale was inaugurated by Conservator Forests, Srinagar Circle, Tawheed Ahmad Deva at Sheikhbagh Forest Complex, Srinagar with an aim to enhance the tree cover outside forests which include Towns, Urban and Peri-Urban areas of Kashmir Valley.The event was attended by forest officials and officers including Divisional Forest Officer, Urban Forestry Division, SrinagarDr. Sheikh Mehraj and DFO Planning and Publicity Division, Danish Khan.

Speaking on the occasion, Conservator Forests, Srinagar Circle highlighted the need for intensive plantation and emphasised planting indigenous species of conifers including Deodar, Kail and Fir. He underscoresthe role of the public for helping the Forest Department to increase the green cover especially outside forests.

It was informed that the sale centres have been established for the convenience ofgeneral public and plants will be made available for sale in thevalley during the season at subsidized rate of Rs.13.50 per sapling.

The sale centres have been setup at PC Depot, Sheikh Bagh Forest Complex in Srinagar and at all District and Divisional headquartersbesides, mobile vans will also be deployed for the sale of conifer plantswithin the Srinagar City. The sapling will be available at these centres uptoMarch 31.
